Lauren Halabi lives a purpose-driven life filled with career coaching, community service, and physical training. Despite her healthy lifestyle, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2019 at the age of just 29. Since then she’s endured multiple surgeries and struggles.
Lauren’s inspiring road to recovery has been difficult, but she has remained positive and has lots of peer support. Her amazing story inspired local entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and medical professionals. Among them: Ecover Global CEO Ben Sever, who considers Lauren one of his closest friends and trusted advisors. Ben and his network decided to throw a fundraiser in Lauren’s name in 2019, called the HalaBEAT Cancer Banquet. The goal was to raise money to help with her treatment. The 2019 banquet raised almost $10,000 and went directly to her medical expenses.
Today Lauren is in recovery, doing well, and remaining positive! Thankful for that, and appreciative of the outpouring of support for the 2019 banquet, Ecover Global decided to make HalaBEAT an annual event with proceeds to benefit local cancer initiatives. Event organizers decided to think big and choose a beneficiary whose mission impacts the entire Tampa Bay Community. The beneficiary of this year’s event was AdventHealth Carrollwood Foundation’s Breast Cancer Committee.
Planning Around a Pandemic
The event had to be scaled back a bit this year due to the pandemic. The team had hoped to invite 60-80 guests to participate, but in order to maintain social distancing, invitations were capped at 40. Much to the team’s delight, the original 40 invited attended with very few exceptions! Those not able to attend donated via the website. Logo’d masks and sanitation stations were provided in order to allow guests to participate safely.
This year’s event, planned by Ecover’s Strategic Partnership Association Intern Kelsey Ramos, took place on July 10th at the Tampa Club. Guests enjoyed gourmet food and drinks, along with networking opportunities with community influencers, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists. Guests included local philanthropists from the American Heart Association, members of Ecover’s own Advisory Board, and other key community members. Speakers included Lauren Halabi, Jeff Gigante and Tony LaForgia of AdventHealth Carrollwood Foundation, and Ben Sever, CEO of Ecover Global.
In addition to Ecover Global, sponsors included AtRock Consulting Group, Elevate, Inc., and Personal Agility. Between ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and individual donations, this year’s banquet raised $12,000 for AdventHealth Carrollwood Foundation’s Breast Cancer Committee!
Ecover Global is not only revolutionizing medical and governmental communication software, but is also empowering medical research efforts, student development, and community collaboration. The company is extremely proud to support other local organizations beyond the HalaBEAT Cancer Banquet and AdventHealth Carrollwood Foundation, including Cure Kids’ Cancer NOW! and the American Heart Association.
